While these moulds can be used with different mediums, it's important to note that each medium comes with its own characteristics, challenges, and virtues. One popular medium choice is Air Dry Clay, and luckily, Iron Orchid Designs carries an artist-quality air dry clay that perfectly complements these moulds. Although most castings release easily, if you are having difficulty, you can lightly dust the mould with cornstarch or arrowroot prior to use. Another medium option is resin. There will be less opportunity for shrinking or cracking with resin. Air dry clay may have minor cracking or shrinking, due to the nature of the product (wood pulp). We feel this adds character to the piece, but you can will in the cracks with more clay, if you prefer.
